Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practise (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12040 - CCLR s.19(1)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation: 4 staff files were reviewed and 1 staff has an RCMP criminal record check clearance and 2 staff have expired criminal record check clearance letters. The 2 staff have already applied for a new check.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that all staff have the appropriate criminal record check clearance letter on file and that a system is put in place to ensure that staff apply for a new check prior to their current check expiring.

Comments

At the inspection dated February 17, 2021, there were 5 children and 2 staff present. At this inspection the above contravention was identified. As part of this Routine Inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

A detailed discussion was had with the Manager regarding cleaning, sanitizing and hand washing. Covid procedures are still in effect and being followed by staff and families.
