Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). Evidence for this report was based on the Licensing Officer’s observations, review of the facility records and information provided by the facility staff at the time of inspection. The following areas were reviewed:
· Licensing, Physical Facility, Staffing, Policies and Procedures, Care & Supervision, Hygiene and Communicable Disease Control, Medication, Nutrition and Food Services, Program, Records and Reporting.
As part of the routine inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided. The Risk Assessment includes non-compliance identified during the routine inspection and a 3 year “historical” review of the facility’s compliance and operation.

Contraventions
Previous Inspection -
Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: The sleep mats that are used by the children have ripped along the seams and exposing the foam inside which makes it difficult to sanitize as it is not a wipable surface. The Manager stated they have already ordered new sleep mats and are waiting for their arrival.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure any equipment used by children is able to be cleaned and sanitized.
Date to be Corrected: June 30, 2018

Comments

The following was discussed/observed at this inspection:

-Group Child Care 30 Months to School Age care was in operation
-No children in the School Age program as children are in school - space used by children was inspected
-11 children in care with 3 staff and 1 practicum student
-children were involved in active play in the outside play yard
-the church is doing some renovations to the lower level of the building. This area is not within the daycare space other than cubby walls which is outside the classroom. The walls will be painted and baseboards installed. There were no workers present at the time of the inspection. Most work is done on the weekend. The Manager also stated that new floors will be put into the daycare. This will be done on the weekend so will not be disrupting the operation of the program.
-Manager's first aid has expired but they will be renewing in the next couple weeks. Manager stated children always have access to staff with valid first aid

One violation is noted above and the Manager has stated that new sleep mats have been ordered already and will be arriving soon. Please provide an email to the Licensing Officer when the sleep mats arrive. A business card was provided to the Manager. Thank you for your time!
