Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Residential Care Regulation (RCR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). Evidence for this report was based on the Licensing Officer’s observations, review of the facility records and information provided by the facility staff at the time of inspection.
The following areas were reviewed:

· Hygiene and Communicable Disease Control
· Medication
· Nutrition and Food Services
· Program
· Records and Reporting
As part of the routine inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided. The Risk Assessment includes non-compliance identified during the routine inspection and a 3 year “historical” review of the facility’s compliance and operation.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 31290 - RCR s.22(1)(b) - A licensee must ensure that all rooms and common areas are (b) maintained in a good state of repair.
Observation: Inspection of the physical facility noted:
Staff bathroom was missing a fan cover
Wall damage to the paint and dry wall behind 1 PIC's bed
floor is separating in 1 PIC's room
water damage to the Bathroom sink cabinet
Kitchen linoleum is worn and discolored
Kitchen cupboards are worn to the wood, and paint missing and water damaged
Kitchen kick boards are damaged and missing paint
Kitchen Counter is swollen and missing laminate behind the sink

Corrective Action(s): Ensure all rooms and common areas are maintained in a good state of repair
* BC housing has been notified of many of these physical facility concerns and there is a plan in place to address them

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 31300 - RCR s.22(1)(c) - A licensee must ensure that all rooms and common areas are (c) maintained in a safe and clean condition.
Observation: It was noted that there is a generator located near the back door on the patio where PIC's have access. This is a possible safety risk as there is electrical to the generator as well as an unsecured battery and cables
Corrective Action(s): ensure common areas are maintained in a safe manner

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 33280 - RCR s.85(1)(d) - A licensee must do all of the following: (d) ensure that policies are implemented by employees.
Observation: It was noted upon review of the MAR that 1 signature area had been whited out and signed over
Corrective Action(s): Ensure policies and procedures are implemented by employees
