Introduction

This is an unscheduled Routine Inspection to assess the compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA) and the Residential Care Regulations (RCR). The following systems were audited:

Previous Inspection - Contraventions observed on FIR #VDAN-A4KRS4 have been corrected except for those noted on supplementary pages.
Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 31290 - RCR s.22(1)(b) - A licensee must ensure that all rooms and common areas are (b) maintained in a good state of repair.
Observation: The wall board at the right of the window in the downstairs bedroom continues to show evidence of moisture, the window sill is not painted and the coving between the floor and the wall has been removed leaving an unpainted strip of white paint. This is a repeat observation from the last inspection. The manager of the house stated that there has been an indoor air quality check for the fear of mold completed in 2014 and the air quality was determined to be satisfactory.
Corrective Action(s): Please provide a plan that will ensure that the living space for PICs supports their health safety and dignity, that repairs are completed in a timely manner.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 31860 - RCR s.69(3)(a) - A licensee must ensure that (a) all medications in the community care facility are safely and securely stored.
Observation: A prescription tube of Voltaren ointment was observed in a PIC room
Corrective Action(s): Please provide a plan to ensure secure storage of medications. Corrected at inspection. Staff follow-up will take place.

This house is clean and tidy in appearance and the residents engage readily with visitors. I'd like to thank the staff and residents for their assistance with this inspection.
