Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (C.C.A.L.A.), the Residential Care Regulation (R.C.R.), and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (D.L.S.P.). Evidence for this report was based on the licensing officer's observations, review of the facility records, and information provided by the facility staff at the time of inspection.

The following areas were reviewed:

As part of this routine inspection a facility risk assessment tool is completed. The risk assessment includes contraventions identified during the routine inspection, and a 3 year historical review of the facility's compliance and operation.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 31100 - RCR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that water accessible to a person in care, from any source, is not heated to more than 49° Celsius.
Observation: Hot water was tested at 3 taps in the home and all 3 temperatures measured above 49 degrees Celcius; kitchen temp 56 degrees, South washroom temp 55 degrees and the north washroom 54 degrees.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that water accessible to a person in care, from any source, is not heated to more than 49 degrees Celcius.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 31290 - RCR s.22(1)(b) - A licensee must ensure that all rooms and common areas are (b) maintained in a good state of repair.
Observation: Noted the following during inspection:
A section of drywall, measuring approximately 25 cm high x 45cm wide, missing at ankle level in the front hallway. It appears that repairs were underway, but not completed.
In the hallways there are a number of areas where the walls, door trim and baseboards are missing paint, have scuffs and scrapes exposing the wood and drywall notes.

Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that all rooms and common areas are maintained in a good state of repair
