Introduction

ROUTINE INSPECTION REPORT

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Residential Care Regulations (RCR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). Evidence for this report was based on the licensing officer's observations, review of the facility records, and information provided by the facility staff at the time of the inspection.

The following areas were reviewed:

o Licensing
o Physical Facility
o Staffing
o Policies and Procedures
o Care and Supervision
o Hygiene and Communicable Disease Control
o Medication
o Nutrition and Food Services
o Programming
o Records and Reporting

As part of this Routine Inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided. The Risk Assessment includes noncompliance identified during the routine inspection, and a 3 year 'historical' review of the facility's compliance and operations.

Details discussed:

- It was recommended that the Medication Safety and Advisory Committee documents on the meeting minutes discussions regarding the following as per RCR 68(3):
o Reviews training/orientation programs for employees who store/handle/administer medications,
o Reviews medication policies and procedures for the safe, effective storage, handling, and administration of medications, and
o Reviews the response and reporting of medication errors and adverse reactions (if applicable).
