Code Description / Observation / Corrective Action
308  Critical Contamination of finished water - Mains
Corrective Action: Water System Owner was directed to post Boil Water Signage at all washroom taps/kitchen taps/cabins and to discard all ice immediately as the two distribution water system samples that were submitted on Oct 20, 2021 were positive for E.coli. This information was given by a telephone call to the Operator at 1:30pm on Oct 20, 2021. Information via the above was also sent to facility via email within 30 minutes of this conversation. On Oct 21, 2021 a site visit to the premises was conducted by this office and the following items were noted: 1) Boil Water Notice signage was NOT posted at premises front door, at restaurant washroom, at pub washrooms, on ice machine, or at lodge guest rooms. 2) Ice bin inside pub was full and notice to office/bar staff was not provided regarding ice source. Therefore staff were directed to dump ice immediately. 3) Staff were directed to post signage to boil all water for 1 minute at required locations as manager was supposed to have done 20-24 hours prior. Staff completed this action prior to Health Protection staff leaving premises.
Comments
The Drinking Water Protection Act Section 14 requires that the water supplier must immediately give notice to the users of the Water Supply System when the Drinking Water Officer receives a report that bacteriological standards have not been met. As the required standard was not met and you received both a telephone call and email regarding the immediate hazard to your users, you had a legal obligation to notify them. Failure to comply with this notification may result in issuance of a violation ticket. This failure MUST NOT occur AGAIN.
